A dolorimeter is a useful device to calculate the commencement and endurance of pain. Articular tenderness is calculated by pushing the dolorimeter against the skin until it reaches the point where pain begins to be felt. Dolorimeters can apply different types of stimuli, for example: Constant pressure, heat or electrical. By applying any of these to different body parts the level of pain endurance can be obtained and specialists will know which type of stimulus causes a feeling of pain.
